Nature Trail at WESTHAYES
APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS AGO WE PLANTED SEVERAL THOUSAND TREES AND SHRUBS ON A GENTLY SLOPING MEADOW OF APPROXIMATELY TEN ACRES.
THE TREES WERE SELECTED FROM A RANGE OF TREES THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE FOUND IN THIS REGION. WE PLANTED AROUND TWENTY DIFFERENT SPECIES TO PROVIDE A NATURAL MIX WHICH IN TURN WOULD ENCOURAGE AN ACTIVE AND ABUNDENT RANGE OF WILDLIFE.
HERE AT WESTHAYES CARAVAN PARK WE ARE ALREADY BLESSED WITH AN ABUNDENT SELECTION OF ANIMALS AND BIRDS ALONG WITH OTHER INTERESTING WILDLIFE SUCH AS BUTTERFLYS, MOTHS AND THE OCCASIONAL BAT. IT IS OUR AMBITION TO IMPROVE THE HABITAT AT THE PARK STILL FURTHER TO CREATE AN ENVIROMENT WHERE THE LOCAL WILDLIFE CAN THRIVE AND OUR CUSTOMERS CAN HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THE AMAZING WILDLIFE THAT CAN BE FOUND IN THE AREA.
EARLIER THIS YEAR WE CUT FOOTPATHS THROUGH THE WOODLAND TO ALLOW OUR CUSTOMERS ACCESS TO THE AREA SO THAT THEY COULD ENJOY A PLEASENT WALK AND ALSO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO VIEW THE VARIOUS BIRDS AND ANIMALS THAT ARE REGULARLY SPOTTED IN THIS AREA.
THE NUMBER OF BIRDS SPOTTED AROUND THE NATURE TRAIL AND THE REST OF THE PARK SEEMS HAS GROWN STEADILY AS MORE AND MORE SPECIES ARE SPOTTED. WE HAVE REGULAR SPOTTINGS OF DEER AND BADGERS ALONG WITH RABBITS AND FIELD MICE.
CREATING THIS WOODLAND WALK HAS BEEN A REAL LABOUR OF LOVE AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO IMPROVE THE AREA STILL FURTHER.

THE AREA HAS FOOTPATHS THAT WIND THROUGH BOTH WOODED AREAS AND MORE OPEN AREAS. HAVING WOODED AREAS AND GRASS LAND FURTHER ENCOURAGES A GREATER VARITY OF WILDLIFE.
AS THE TREES GROW WE WILL BE FITTING A SELECTION OF BIRD BOXES TO PROVIDE NESTING OPPORTUNITIES FOR BIRDS IN THE AREA.
WE WILL ALSO BE FITTING SOME BAT BOXES WE HOPE THAT THIS WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF BATS CURRENTLY BEING SPOTTED AROUND THE PARK.
WE ALSO INTEND TO PLACE SOME LOG PILES AROUND THE WOODLAND TO PROVIDE COVER AND HABITAT FOR INSECTS, BUGS AND SMALL ANIMALS. A HEALTHY SELECTION OF SMALL ANIMALS AND INSECTS WILL ALSO HELP TO INCREASE THE SELECTION OF BIRDS STILL FURTHER.
WE HAVE SEEN BUZZARDS AND OTHER BIRDS OF PREY AROUND THE PARK ALONG WITH A COUPLE OF BARN OWLS ALL MAKING THE MOST OF THE NEW WOODLAND AREA.
SOME OF THE MORE RECENT SIGHTINGS INCLUDE, DEER, RABBITS, SQUIRRELS AND BIRDS OF PREY SUCH AS BUZZARDS.

DURING THE SHORT TIME THAT THE WOODLAND HAS BEEN OPEN TO OUR CUSTOMERS WE HAVE RECEIVED A HUGE AMOUNT OF POSITIVE COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE ENJOYED A STROLL THROUGH THE NATURE TRAIL.
SOME HAVE MANAGED TO CAPTURE SOME OF THE WILDLIFE ON CAMERA, SOME HAVE CAUGHT A FLEETING GLIMPSE OF A BIRD OF PREY OR A DEER AND SOME ARE STILL WAITING FOR THEIR FIRST ENCOUNTER BUT IN THE MEANTIME THEY ARE ENJOYING THEIR WALKS
THROUGH THE AREA.
WE HOPE AS THE WOODLAND MATURES IT WILL CONTINUE TO BRING PLEASURE TO US AND OUR CUSTOMERS AND OUR FUTURE CUSTOMERS WHO SHARE OUR INTEREST IN THE ENVIRONMENT.
